Following on from last year's very successful first small batch of Yuzu gin, this year we've been able to secure a larger amount of deliciously fragrant organic fruit to produce a much larger batch with a beautiful new label! Thanks to unseasonably late warm weather, the fruit was ripe almost 2 months earlier than usual, which means an unexpected winter treat to brighten our spirits.
A citrus fruit of Japanese/Korean origin, Yuzus are a hybrid species - a cross between mandarins and ichang papedas (a Chinese fruit with lemon-scented flowers). They're tart like lemons and bitter like grapefruits, but with a surprising floral/herbal note. We've doubled down on the delicousness by first steeping the zest in our Aussie dry gin The Journey, then distilling the skins to extract all the fragrant oils.
